As we look ahead to this winter, marked by a historic El Niño, what can local growers realistically expect?
National Weather Service (NWS) Meteorologist Sebastian Westerink breaks down what we know, what we don't know, and what to expect for the upcoming season. Sebastian will share his insights into the upcoming winter pattern and explore weather hazards to watch for in a forecast so growers can proactively protect their plants. Attendees will also learn where to access NWS meteorological data and forecasts to help safeguard their crops and hobby gardens all year long.
Sebastian Westerink is a meteorologist at the National Weather Service in San Diego, where he contributes to the SKYWARN and aviation teams. His work focuses on expanding weather observations, meeting tailored aviation partner needs, and collaborating with researchers at Scripps Institution of Oceanography to apply atmospheric research to short and medium-range West Coast forecasting. Sebastian is dedicated to engaging with local communities and providing partners and the public with the critical data needed to make informed decisions to protect against hazardous weather.
