Mark Wall has been the coordinator for the Vista Farmer's Market since 2008. Previous to managing the Vista Farmers Market, he operated a Muscovy duck farm in Oceanside, selling to upscale restaurants. Currently he raises cherimoyas, sugar cane, guavas, dragon fruit, tunas, bananas, figs, avocados, limes and other citrus + more.
Vista Farmers Market is the oldest farmers market in SD County and one of the oldest in California. It's been operating every Saturday, year-round since 1981, with a mix of small backyard farmers and large family farms. Most of the participating farmers grow within 20 miles of the market, some in the Central Valley and the Central Coast. We have helped keep large and small farmers on the land, particularly during the pandemic, and work to advocate for better regulations and reasonable enforcement.
There are a number of little known ways to sell from your garden or farm that allow you to skip a lot of the paperwork and hassle. Farmers Market participants can sell once a year, once a month, once a week or in other ways. The Vista Farmers Market is every Saturday from 8 am to 12 noon at the County Courthouse — 325 South Melrose, just off the 78 in Vista.
