Nalani Vaughn will be speaking to our chapter about tropical/subtropical trees that grow in San Diego and how to maintain them. Vaughn grew up in Bend, Oregon and was an avid gardener, inspired by her grandparents who ran the Ruth Bancroft Garden in Walnut Creek in Contra Costa County. She came to San Diego on vacation and, bowled over by all she could grow here, never left. She started working in nurseries, focusing on fruit trees, and capped her nursery work with an intense internship with the late fruit tree guru Jim Neitzel, first chairperson of the San Diego Chapter of the California Rare Fruit Growers. For the last 14 years, she's run Fruitmommy, focusing on home orchard care with an organic approach.
