The next Orchard Tour will be at the home of our fearless tour coordinator Gwyn Quillen. Here's her description of the farm:

"I live in Elfin Forest on a 2-acre homestead I call Quicquidlibet Farm. Quicquidlibet is an English word meaning one who does whatever one pleases whenever one pleases. It seemed like a fitting name for life in my new home ten years ago, when I left behind a demanding career practicing law in Los Angeles. It has evolved to take on additional meaning over time, as I accept that the plants, animals, and fungi that grow and live here will surprise me daily, doing whatever they please.

I grow most of my own food, with extras for friends and family. I have a large mixed orchard, fruit and grapevines, and vegetable and mushroom gardens. I raise ducks and chickens (mainly for eggs and snail control), goats (mainly for milk), and pigs for meat. I have two mini donkeys and a horse for pets, a dog for livestock protection and hiking companionship, and a cat for rodent control.

From the vineyard I make red and white wines. The main grape varieties are Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Sauvignon Blanc. I had planned to host an Orchard Tour someday in the imaginary future when all my projects and maintenance were completed. But I have realized that the work is never going to be complete, so I’m just going ahead, trying not to let the perfect be the enemy of the good. I have a to-do list that grows longer every day. It’s not quite what I expected from retirement, but I love it."

Please RSVP to Gwyn at tours@growrarefruit.org. In your RSVP, please provide the name of each person for whom you are responding. I will have to limit the tour to about 20 people, due to parking constraints. Refreshments will be provided.

Address and parking details will be provided the day before the tour to those who have RSVP’d.

Also, please e-mail Gwyn if you would be willing to open your orchard or garden for a tour. The May slot is open.
